DrivesToScan - custom registry scripts

Postby seamaiden » Sat Sep 17, 2005 11:20 am

In order to make CleanUp! 4.5 Beta more "user friendly," I have created a series of .reg files the user can execute when they want to scan a particular drive (or combination of drives) for removing Temporary files. Please tell me if the syntax is incorrect.

IMPORTANT:
- CleanUp! MUST be closed when these .reg files are executed.
- You must log on as an administrator in Windows 2000/XP/2003 to use these files. Limited users have read-only access to the registry. They cannot add, delete, or change registry entries.

Creating a .reg file
To create a .reg file, open Notepad (or your default text editor), copy and paste the information below into it. REGEDIT4 must be the first line. There should be a blank line between it and the [key] data. The string="value" data should go on the next line after [key]. Save the file as a .reg file (not a .txt file).

Executing a .reg file
Double-click the file to execute it. This will add (merge) the information to the registry.

Note: If you have a custom registry tweak where the default action for .reg files is to open (edit) them rather then to execute (merge) them, then double-clicking the .reg file will open the file in Notepad (or your default text editor). In this case, you will need to right-click on the file and select Merge to add the information to the registry rather than double-clicking.

To scan only Drive C for temporary files:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\stevengould.org\CleanUp!\Options]
DrivesToScan="C"

To scan only Drive D for temporary files:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\stevengould.org\CleanUp!\Options]
DrivesToScan="D"

To scan Drives C and D for Temporary files:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\stevengould.org\CleanUp!\Options]
DrivesToScan="CD"

To scan Drives C, D, and F for Temporary files:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\stevengould.org\CleanUp!\Options]
DrivesToScan="CDF"

Thanks seamaiden. Hopefully others will find these helpful. Just one comment though. The registry paths you have listed should be:
Code: Select all
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\stevengould.org\CleanUp!\Options

You're missing the "\Software" in each one. Other than that they look fine. Note that you could edit your original post to correct these rather than posting another similar, yet different version and confusing users. :-)
